School role in peace

Published November 19, 2012

Today, globally we are living in difficult times. The government is playing its role in addressing many of the security threats and conflicts faced by Pakistan but the role of schools has been crucial.

School is the place where holistic quality education is offered that makes the overall development of a child. School curriculum and school activities should include a special human rights education that would enable our young people to become educated, humane, and responsible citizens of Pakistan and the world.

It is a fact that there are increased tensions and growing insecurity in the world which is a challenge for us. But this problem is impossible to be solved with force and guns.

It is, indeed, school education which is considered a key dimension and a very effective strategy to address these challenges and build the long-term process of peace, tolerance, justice and intercultural and international understanding. In fact, schools are microcosm and nurseries of future society.
