Supreme Court dismisses NRO implementation case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday dismissed the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) implementation case and withdrew the contempt notice against Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, DawnNews reported.

A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed the hearing over the NRO verdict implementation case.

During the hearing, Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek requested the court to dismiss the case and said that the letter, written by attorney general of Pakistan and sent via diplomatic channel, had been received by Swiss attorney general.

The court’s ruling said that its order was implemented in view of the instructions given in Paragraph 178 of the SC's judgment dated 16th December, 2009, in the case of Dr Mobashir Hasan.

Talking to media representative after the hearing, Farooq H. Naek said that the court’s decision was a victory for justice and democracy adding that the government implemented every directive of the supreme court.

Moreover, he said that the letter was not written forcibly rather in accordance of supreme court instructions.

The whole drama was a non-sense from both sides. Issuance of letter does not mean anything and SC insistence on issuance of letter was pure propaganda tool to get cheap publicity. There are lot more serious issues in Pakistan and those responsible for serious criminal acts are hardly punished by our judicial system.

Zardari and his men and women spent the last 4+ years protecting theri own skin at the expense of public funds. They should be required to reimburse the treasury for their shinanigans. After all this is a personal matter of Zardari taking bribes and looting the treasury. He should have defending these charges from his own personal money. He looted the public, the second time around. What a fine President we have?

The letter was returned for additional postage due. The postage scale at the Law Ministry was not calibrated correctly. Oh Well, Is any scale in any Ministry in Pakistan is calibrated correctly?

Govt has spent millions to pursue the case in last 4.5 years at the cost of its tax payers. This only happens in this country with the abnormal mindset of people in the parliaments & presidency.

the letter, written by attorney general of Pakistan, did the AGP really wrote the letter? He was against writing it. Something definitely fishy.

The best way Zardari could get Gilani removed as a Prime Minister was through the Court and Gilani simply became a scape goat. How is that today Raja Ashraf agreed to have the letter written. If Zardari removed Gilani his position as President cum civilian Dictator would be shakey.

Do you have any personal knowledge of Mr. Zardari taking bribes and looting the treasury? If not then stay quiet and if yes go to the courts. Repeating same non-sense again and again without any proof or merit doesn't make it true. And "feelings" are not proof. You might hate Zardari but thats not proof. Govt has every right to fight for the supremacy of the parliament and challenge courts if they disagree. No extra judicial action has been taken by the Govt.

There is no hope of getting a single penny back. First SC opted to finde a middle way, Govt got immunity for president and letter is written. I do not appreciate both SC and govt. Yousaf Raza Gillani is made escape goat. Now SC and govt must find a middle way to clear ex PM.
