KARACHI, Nov 12: A judicial magistrate (west) on Monday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of two undertrial prisoners who absconded after being released on parole in 2003.

Judicial Magistrate Sohail Ahmed Mashoori issued the warrants against Mohammed Sajid alias Goga in a case (FIR 5/1997) registered by the Orangi Extension police under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The investigation officer informed the court that the accused was arrested in Jan 13, 2000 in the theft case and later during interrogation he disclosed his involvement in two murder cases registered by the Orangi Town and Landhi police.

The accused was released on temporary parole by the provincial government on Aug 12, 2003 and later his parole was extended till Dec 31, 2005. However, the paroled UTP did not report back to the authorities and absconded.

Another accused who was released on parole was Abdul Latif Kamran alias Panda who was arrested on Aug 24, 1999 in an arms possession case (FIR 219/99) and was released on parole by the provincial government on Nov 20, 2003. His parole was also extended till Dec 2005. He also disappeared after his parole ended.

The magistrate issued non-bailable warrants against the two accused separately and put off the hearing to Nov 17.

Meanwhile, at least 38 people who were booked and arrested for violating the ban on pillion riding on motorcycles were released after being granted bail in the sum of Rs5,000 each by different judicial magistrates.

They were arrested by the police on Sunday.

Besides, the legal proceedings at the city’s district courts were suspended to mark the demise of former senator and senior lawyer Iqbal Haider.
