LAHORE, Aug 29: Naulakha police took two motorcyclists into custody near Dalgaran Chowk and seized from them two mortars, 20 mortar shells and two weapons here on Wednesday.

One of the suspects identified as Shabbir alias Bhola Gadi is number two of the Tipu Tarakkanwala gang and was wanted by the City Division police in several murder cases.

DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir told Dawn that the City Division police had been making efforts to arrest Shabbir for a long time.

He said the accused was recently wanted in a murder case registered with the Akbari Gate police.

He said the accused was taken into custody on secret information that he would be passing through the Dalgaran Chowk.

He said the police searched a bag his accomplice Naeem alias Nannha was carrying and found arms and ammunition in it.

The DIG said that suspects used to carry heavy weapons to terrorize their rivals, including members of the Teefi Butt gang. He said Shabbir was also a hired assassin.

CAUGHT: A rickshaw driver and his accomplice were captured by the area people and were handed over to the police after they were dumping the body of a woman near Data Darbar at Bhati Chowk on Wednesday.

The Bhati Gate police said that driver Muhammad Jameel and his accomplice Sama came to the place to throw the body of an unidentified woman. They said the body was shifted to a hospital for an autopsy.

Accused Jameel told police that they were dumping the body on the direction of ASI Rehmat of Railway police.

DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir said the cause of woman’s death could be determined after the autopsy report.

He said the preliminary investigation revealed that suspects took the body from the railway police chowki situated at the railway station.

He said a murder case had been registered against the arrested suspects and ASI Rehmat who had disappeared.

KILLED: An unidentified man was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle near Khokhar Stop here on Wednesday.

Islampura police said the victim was crossing the road when the incident happened.

MURDERED: A retired officer of the forest department was found murdered at his residence in Nargis Block of Iqbal Town on Wednesday.

Iqbal Town police said that 60-year-old Shahid Amjad was spotted dead by his maid.

Police said the victim, who was unmarried, was strangled after being tortured. His hands and feet were also found trussed up with a rope.

Police began investigation into the blind murder.

ROBEBRY: Two robbers waylaid Hakim Ali in South Cantonment police limits and looted Rs800,000 and a cell phone from him on Wednesday.

Two gunmen approached Ahsaan in Islampura police limits and robbed him of Rs35,000 in cash, two cell phones and a gold chain.
