Man killed in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA, July 25: A man was killed allegedly by his former father-in-law here on Wednesday.

SHO Munda police station Farman Khan told Dawn that the victim, Gul Zada, had poisoned his wife to death three months ago.

He said that police arrested his father-in-law, Hakim Shah, on suspicion of involvement in the killing after the body of Gul Zada was recovered from a dry stream in Munda area.

The SHO claimed that Hakim Shah had confessed to his crime and police had also recovered the weapon used in the crime.

Meanwhile, the Timergara police found a human head near Panjkora River at Deyaroon on Wednesday.

The police had earlier found a headless body near Manzaray Tangay on Monday and had buried it as there was no claimant. The police have sent the head for DNA test. —Correspondent

Three held, explosives seized

KOHAT, July 25: An attempt to smuggle explosives into the city from the adjoining tribal area was foiled here on Wednesday and three alleged terrorists were arrested by the police.

The Bilitang police acting on a tip-off from intelligence agencies arrested the accused travelling on a motorcycle and recovered 6kg explosives, six hand grenades and a Kalashnikov.

The accused were identified as Nawaz Khan of Kamal Khel and Abdul Qayyum and Anwar Khan of Orakzai Agency. —Correspondent

40-ton trucks allowed on bridge

TIMERGARA, July 25: The Lower Dir district administration and National Highway Authority on Wednesday agreed to allow trucks carrying up to 40-ton weight to pass through the temporary bridge at Chakdara.

Taking notice of the traders’ grievances, ANP’s central leader Senator Zahid Khan called on the NHA general manager to remove his concerns in this regard. Later, Dir Lower DCO Mahmood Aslam Wazir issued the notification allowing 40-ton truck to cross the Chakdara Bridge.

Meanwhile, traders’ leaders including Liaq Zada Liaq, Haji Hussainullah, Buzarg Ahmad, Haji Amanullah and others in their written statement thanked Senator Zahid Khan and the district administration for resolving the issue. The traders had warned of strong protest against the authorities’ decision to decrease the weight from 50 to 25 tons. —Correspondent

Five injured in clash

MINGORA, July 25: Five persons were injured when two groups clashed here on Wednesday over a monetary dispute in Koza Banda area of Swat district.

Police have taken all five persons into custody from hospital.

The two parties exchanged fire just after Iftar over payment of a vehicle, resulting in injuries to Mohammad Riaz and Sardar Ali from one side while Mohammad Amin and his two sons Fazal-ur-Rehman and Gul Rehman from the rival group.

The wounded persons were rushed to Saidu Sharif Hospital for medical treatment. Later, police took all of them into custody and registered a case against them. -- APP

SHO dies of wounds

KOHAT, July 25: A police inspector, who was injured along with his two other colleagues in a road accident near Bagato area of Hangu district the other day, succumbed to his injuries in a Peshawar hospital on Wednesday.

The station house officer of Doaba police station, Ghazi Rehman, was seriously injured when a police mobile fell into a ravine near Bagato area of Hangu on Tuesday.

He was, later, laid to rest with full honour in Mamo Banda village. He has left behind two children and a wife to mourn his death. —Correspondent

Smeda consultancy centre opens

PESHAWAR, July 25: The Legal Consultancy Centre established under the auspices of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) with financial assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has become operational in the city.

It will provide free legal consultancy to traders.

The centre established for economic development and legal empowerment of poor is replicating the third party facilitation centre successfully operated by Smeda for two years.

The previous legal consultancy centre was established in Jinnah Street, Peshawar Cantonment and the new one has been set up in Sona Centre, Jewellery Market, Peshawar city.

Talking to APP, provincial coordinator of the project Noor Zeba said that the centre would extend legal consultancy regarding complicated issues and will disseminate important information. Similarly, it will also organise workshops, seminars and training programmes for the trading community of Peshawar. —APP
