I AM saddened to hear that eminent scholar Obaidullah Baig, an intelligent man with outstanding and sharp memory, magnificent intellect yet down to earth simple living attitude, is no more with us.

One of my favourites and globally acknowledged, Mr Obaidullah had always inspired us with the simplicity and profound knowledge. Despite awesome level of wisdom, I always found him calm, decent and humble. May Allah rest his soul in peace. It is a tragic loss for book lovers and knowledge seekers.

We have lost a teacher, an asset and an irreplaceable ideal. While I mourn the loss of this great man, I feel blessed and honoured that he belonged to Pakistan. My deepest condolence to his family. He has left behind a legacy of wisdom, sophistication and honour.
