WE are aware that smoking is injurious to health. Sadly, probably most of us do not follow this advice. Being a student of the University of Karachi, I observe that a majority, probably every third, of the students, smoke inside the premises of the university, and the number of smokers is growing.

Those who do not smoke before admission in the university are found smoking without any hesitation after the admission.

Cigarettes of all kinds and brands, from cheapest to expensive, are easily available to all students. The most interesting thing is that shops inside the university may not have necessary items such as stationery, but they do sell cigarettes because of an increase in demand inside the campus.

It is a wrong perception that only male students smoke cigarettes in the university. Nowadays girls have also started smoking inside the premises, though not openly.

I request the vice- chancellor to take strict action against smoking inside the university as it is ruining the future of our generation.
