RAWALPINDI, April 30:  Two persons, including a policeman, were on Monday arrested in connection with the alleged ‘torture to death’ of a young milkman on Sunday. The police said raids were underway to capture the three other accused in the case.

Noman Qayyum alias Nomi, the police constable posted at Pirwadhai, and his relative Humayun were arrested by the police in a pre-dawn raid at Peshawar and later brought to Rawalpindi. They would be produced in the court of area magistrate for obtaining their remand on Tuesday.

Malik Waqar Ahmed, 19, a resident of Krishanpura Mohallah, was allegedly picked up by Humayun from Pirwadhai bus stand and taken to a house in Khayaban-i-Sir Syed where he was subjected to severe torture by Noman and his accomplices.

Waqar Ahmed had told the police that he had been working with Farooq Shah at his cattle pen for the last one year but later disassociated from him after being accused of stealing money.

Jaffar Hussain, a sub-inspector who is leading the investigating into the incident, said it had emerged that the torture victim was forced to drink juice mixed with chilli powder and beaten with iron rods. His nails were pulled with a plier to force him to confess to the theft of money.

After being freed from the week-long captivity of policeman and his accomplices on March 19, the victim was taken to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) where he died on Sunday.
