GILGIT: Normal life was restored in Skardu district of Gilgit-Baltistan after days of protest, while the curfew was relaxed for four hours in Gilgit, officials said.

Schools, colleges, offices both government and private have been opened in Skardu and normal life has been completely restored.

However, traffic on Karakuram Highway remained suspended on the 10th consecutive day.

The residents while talking to APP from Skardu complained about the high prices charged by the shopkeepers and they maintained that they are continuously fleecing them while shortage of a lot of things was also reported.

Meanwhile, authorities relaxed curfew for four hours from 1 pm to 5 pm and allowed outsiders to go and the army troops and other law enforcement agencies kept patrolling on the roads to maintain law and order.

Like other parts of the G-B, food shortages were reported at many points of the city and especially flour disappeared from the market though the supply by the flour mills to the authorised dealers continued.

Army operation in the city, assisted by other law enforcement agencies, continued and more than 70 people were taken into custody.

There was no report of any untoward incident from any part of the region.
