RAWALPINDI, Sept 29: The Federal Investigation Agency's anti-human smuggling wing arrested a travel agent on the charge of smuggling unemployed youth to European countries via Turkey.

A hunt for another suspected human smuggler has also been launched, the authorities said.

The arrest of Abdul Quyyum alias Jilli and the manhunt for Raja Abdul Shakoor of Mirpur (AJK) came about after four Pakistani illegal immigrants deported by Turkey arrived here on a Turkish Airlines flight.

A senior official of the immigration department said the four, who also belonged to Mirpur, were handed over to the FIA's passport cell for investigation. They told the investigators that the two agents had arranged their travel documents against payment of Rs400,000 each. They had paid Rs20,000 each to the travel agents in advance while the remaining amount was to be given to them after reaching their destinations.

The Pakistanis had left heir hometowns some one month back seeking job opportunities abroad. But they were caught by the Turkish authorities and put in detention camps, where they faced inhuman treatment.

Later, their families paid the expenses for their journey back. According to the FIA officials, Abdul Quyyum had also been arrested in 2009 but later he was released.

Gangs involved in human smugglers included not only some influential people in Pakistan but also powerful elements operating in Iran, Turkey and Greece.
