LAHORE, July 10: A first-year student was shot dead allegedly by two unidentified motorcyclists near MAO College on Sunday.

Islampura police said 17-year-old Umer Farooq of Sher Rabbani Road, Old Anarkali, was playing cricket in the street when he received a call on his cell phone.

As he reached near MAO College Chowk, two assailants riding a bike approached him and fled after shooting the youngster.

Umer was rushed to Mayo Hospital where he succumbed to his single-bullet wound.

A police investigator said Umer, who was studying at Islamia College Civil Lines, allegedly developed relations with a girl which might have led to his murder.

He said the police handed over the body to the family after autopsy and launched investigation.
