Arms seized

RAWALPINDI, Jan 3: Police have seized two consignments of foreign and local arms at Rawalpindi and Peshawar railway stations, official sources said here on Monday.

Senior Superintendent of Railway Police Javed Khan confirmed that the police had seized 57 wooden boxes containing weapons.

The consignment was booked on the two-down Khyber Mail from Peshawar for different arm dealers in Karachi and Badin.

“Such consignments required authorisation and their transportation must be brought to the notice of the SSP railway,” Mr Khan said. Asked about the configuration of the arms, the SSP gave no details except saying that it contained 'shotguns'. He said the police were waiting for the consignee to come, so that the sealed boxes could be opened in his presence.

He said the seizure was made on information that a large quantity of arms was being transported from KP to Sindh.

The second seizure of foreign made arms was made at the Peshawar railway station. The consignment comprising 480 wooden boxes was lying in the parcel room of the railway station when the police seized it. The consignment was booked from Karachi. “The arms were China made. But it was not known who had booked it and for whom,” the SSP said. He said the police had registered reports on the seizures and started investigations.
