RAWALPINDI, Dec 21: The prosecution has asked a trial court to transfer the case of two arrested accused in twin suicide attacks on former President Pervez Musharraf in 2003 to the military court.

The military court has already sentenced eight men to death for planning the suicide attacks – in which 15 people were killed – on the former president on December 25, 2003.

Special Judge Anti-Terrorism Court-I (ATC) Malik Akram Awan issued notices to the lawyers of the accused, Rana Faqir Hussain and Jamshaid Raza, for December 24, the next date of hearing.

Malik Mohammad Asghar, the district public prosecutor, said the military court had already tried eight men and a woman in the case.

The woman was acquitted in 2005. The two accused should be tried under the Army Act, he said. The eight men, including junior army officers, were sentenced to death by a field general court martial for planning and executing the attacks.

The Anti-Terrorism Court last year acquitted Shazia Mubashir, daughter-in-law of Rana, a resident of Faisalabad, on the ground that she was already tried and absolved by the military court.

Civil Lines police arrested Rana and Jamshaid in August last year for their alleged role in the suicide attacks near Jhanda Chichi.
