MIRPURKHAS, Nov 15: An encounter with the highwaymen took lives of two policemen and inflicted injuries to five coach passengers on Digri-Naokot road near Digri on Monday. Reportedly, an air-conditioned coach going to Naokot from Digri was intercepted by six armed men near Amb Mori. The bandits opened fire on tyres to stop the coach.Head Constable Mohammad Yousuf Arain and Constable Makan Lal, travelling in the coach retaliated by opening fire on the bandits. Bullets hit the two policemen who died on the spot while five passengers were also injured in the crossfire. Dacoits fled in the nearby forest.

DPO, Mirpurkhas, Zulfikar Maher reached the spot along with his contingent besides police force from Badin and Tharparkar districts was also called for launching a raid against the bandits.

Bodies of the deceased policemen and injured passengers were taken to Digri taluka hospital.

SHO Digri Ghulam Nabi Shar said that the area has been condoned off by police and strict checking was being made at main roads to arrest dacoits.
