Taliban fighters swarmed into the district, hitting police stations with rockets and grenades, killing one woman — AFP/File photo.

LAKKI MARWAT Militants mounted simultaneous attacks on police lines, district police office and city police station with heavy weaponry late on Monday night, sources said.

Sources said that a woman was killed and her husband and mother-in-law were injured when a hand grenade hurled at the city police station fell in the house of a bank official.

Heavy exchange of firing also took place between the law enforcers and attackers.

The assailants, sources said, fired rockets at the buildings of police lines and the district police office, while they hurled hand grenades at the city police station.

A hand grenade hurled at the city police station fell in the house of a bank official Muhammad Ishaq, residents said. They said that the bank official, his wife Razia Bibi and mother Naveta Bibi were critically injured. Later, Razia Bibi died in a hospital.

'We thought Taliban militants swarmed the city to take revenge of the operation the security forces had launched in Shah Hasankhel village on July 4,' a resident said.

The people were sleeping when huge explosions rocked the entire area, creating panic among the residents.

Sources said that exchange of firing between the law enforcers and miscreants lasted for 15 to 20 minutes. The attackers whose number could not be ascertained managed to escape law enforcement search operations against them.
