QUETTA: Chief of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Sardar Akhtar Mengal Friday said the forces responsible for the unrest in Balochistan would not allow observers of European Union to monitor the upcoming general elections.

Talking to reporters on Friday evening, he said the EU observers were ready to visit the violence-ridden province but establishment was creating hindrances in their way.

Mengal said Balochistan government had also assured provision of security to observers if they come. “Now there was no justification for the interior ministry to stop them,” he said.

The party chief said Balochistan was in a state of war and he was trying to bring the province out of this turmoil.

Responding to a question about seat adjustments in Balochistan, he said BNP-M has constituted a parliamentary board in the chairmanship of Dr Jahanzeb Jamaldini to negotiate with political parties. He said his party was ready to form electoral alliance with other political parties.

Sardar Akhtar Mengal, however, stated that situation was still not conducive for elections. He said that hitherto no practical steps were taken by rulers to restore the confidence of Baloch masses.

He said still Baloch political workers were being picked up and dead bodies were being found. Mengal said his party's worker was gunned down in Khuzdar the other day.
