KARACHI, March 23: An exhibition in connection with Pakistan Day celebrations opened at the National Museum of Pakistan on Saturday morning.

The show does not have a great many exhibits but whatever there is on display highlights the events leading up to, or happening in, March 1940. There are published copies, both in Urdu and English, of resolutions of the All India Muslim League (AIML) as well as of a few important public meetings that took place in the 1930s. For example, the showcase right in front of the main entrance door to the exhibition hall contains ‘Resolutions of the All India Muslim League from Dec 1938 to March 1940’. Next to it is a booklet in Urdu on the 1931 public meeting in which the presidential address was delivered by Chaudhry Zafarullah Khan.

Then copies of the constitution of the All India Muslim League and rules of the AIML national guards (published by Liaquat Ali Khan) can also be viewed.

An interesting item, which perhaps is a bit different from the rest of the exhibits, is a poster urging people to join the All India Muslim League public meeting. The write-up suggests that those who wish to take part in the event can a board a train from Delhi at 9pm and can reach Lahore at 9.30am.

Apart from that a piece titled ‘Baluchistan – Case and Demand’ by Qazi M. Isa (bar-at-law) President AIML Baluchistan is on display.

Finally, as has become a customary exercise for the museum exhibitions, black and white photographs of those who participated in the freedom movement adorn the walls of the hall. They include, among others, pictures of Maulana Mohammad Ali Johar, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Khawaja Nazimuddin, Lady Nusrat Haroon, Begum Shahnawaz and Liaquat Ali Khan.

The exhibition will continue until March 31.
