RECENTLY, a woman pushed a man off a subway platform in New York which results in the death of a 46-year-old man. The accused woman is now arrested by New York police. The 31-year-old woman is identified as Erika Menendez and she have stated that she did so because she hated Hindus and Muslims.
She added that she hated Hindus and Muslims ever since 2001 when they (Hindus and Muslims) put down the twin towers.
The woman has also been quoted as saying that she has been beating Hindus and Muslims since 2001. The victim was Sunando Sen, who was born in India and used to run a printing shop.
This also shows that the US government has failed in protecting common people’s lives. This is the second incident that someone had been pushed to his death at a New York City subway station. A few ago, 26 people, including 20 innocent children, were killed by a 20-year-old man in Newtown, Connecticut. The unfortunate incident also highlights the law and order situation in the US.
On many occasions, the US has termed various countries not safe for its citizens but the incidents which have occurred in the US in the past few months show that even the US has failed to maintain law and order on its own soil.

Hello Writer,
I read your article. I wish you can also go in depth about the incident and then make your reporting. The lady apparently suffering from delusional disorder and is probably a reason for this incident. To make a sweeping statement that it is prevalent in whole society is not a right interpretation. The society in USA is probably the most tolerate for all people. It is probably million times better than Pakistan. I know,as a person of Hindu religion , I can never be free in Pakistan. Here in USA, I see temple,mosques, churches and several many people living in harmony and a law to address if there is short comings. Hope, you see some light. Bless you.

The muslims don't have the sole right to hate every non-muslim. The non-muslims too can exercise their freedom to reciprocate. The writer must have his head burried firmly deep in the sand as he has failed to notice how shias and other minorities are losing their lives in Pakistan and yet no body gets punished. Who are killing the muslims in Karachi? Before criticising others, look at your own behaviour first.

Dear Mr. Mahmood can you please comment about hate crimes against Muslims in Pakistan. According to latest figures, 7,000 Muslims were killed in Pakistan in 2012 (2700 in Karachi alone). Also I should mention 1500 women and children but Malala had survived. 70 mosques in Pakistan were burned or bombed in 2012. No Muslims were killed in USA due to hate crime in 2012. Muslims in US live peculiarly and practice their religion freely and they can go to mosque of their choice which they can not do without risking their lives.

This is really funny. That woman committed a hate crime, and has been promptly arrested, and will likely be punished. The fact that the author can recount the number of 'hate' crimes in the US is testimony to the fact that that these crimes are rare. The fact that the woman has been arrested goes on to show that the state takes these crimes seriously.
Meanwhile, it is rather generous of a Pakistani citizen to point out at 'Hate crimes against Muslims', given the affectionate treatment Pakistanis mete out to their own minorities (Christians, Hindus) and the deemed minorities (Shias, Ahmedis).

That woman said that she pushed that man because she thought he is a muslim. She never said that she hated Hindus too. Check out the real news on international press. Now that man happened to be a Hindu from and India. because he looked like an south Asian, so she thought he must be a muslim. Plz dont manipulate facts, its a Sin.

I don't understand how it is hate crime against muslims. The guy who died is a born hindu (turned Agnostic or Atheist in later life). Also, Newtown attack was not against muslims. The title is totally misleading.

US government too do not care for innocent human lives, killing by drone in Pakistan and in other Islamic world to the innocent civilians men, women and children on suspicion. The killing of suspicious people without trial is a crime. US should respect human values and avoid such killings on suspicion.

The comments are very interesting. One should, however, note that if something wrong is happening in any Muslim or Hindu or any other country for similar or any other criminal happening then we should keep our eyes closed and not criticize these incidences taking place in so called developed or developing countries. A crime is a crime wherever it may happen. In my opinion we should agree that there is no safe haven anywhere in the world. An Urdu couplet says;

Hey dude. Which America do you live in.
Last late summer here in Michigan we were robbed at gun-point at a gas station. In Detroit there is a murder here every day in a population of 600,000. It used to be over a 1,000 but the city has lost people. Miami is not far behind.
Break-ins are frequent. We are renovating a few houses, and electricity wires, water pipes, bathroom fixtures, cabinets would disappear over night requiring expensive repairs. One day the entire furnace was gone. The other day the counter top.
In defense, gated communities have sprouted everywhere.
Here is a hilarious New York City joke. In the middle of changing the rear tire on the street in broad daylight a driver was surprised by someone putting a jack to the front wheel. When the owner queried the interloper deadpanned ? the same thing as you, stealing the wheel !!!
Karachi is no paradise. But I would take its crime any day.

Sadly there are misguided people in every corner of the world. There will always be those who judge others by their physical appearances, race, or religion. In my heart I believe it is not our duty to give them attention and fame for their hate but instead to give our time and energy to those who promote the positive and good in our lives. In Pakistan as in America and other parts of the world there are those who never look past the news headlines. There are thousands of Muslims living in America who live peacefully with others from every religion in the world. To them I must give my appreciation because they change the way people think by being good American citizens and sharing the peace of Islam with others. While the incident mentioned in this article was indeed sad no matter what religion the man was, it is only a tiny reflection of the whole story of America. Just as I tell people here who read the headlines about violence in Pakistan, its a small reflection of a proud and hospitable nation. I wish you all peace today.

How can you compare the violence in the U.S. to that in Pakistan? Out of over 300 million people, some are bound to be crazy and fanatics! How could anyone have predicted that this crazy woman is going to push this man down the subway tracks? I am not saying the U.S. is perfect, but please, don't even go close to comparing the situation in the U.S. to that we are experiencing in Pakistan. The daily bomb blasts, suicide bombings, robbery at gun-point, burning of public transportation, businesses, crime against women, etc. - people who do not belong to a certain sect of Islam religion - the rest all feel threatened - all the time, in their own country. No other country in the world comes close to what is happening in Pakistan. Before we comfort ourselves by saying that U.S. also has failed to protect its citizens, get a closer look at the statistics - we are comparing apples with oranges.
