LAHORE, Nov 16: The Punjab government has decided to use information technology to track Muharram processions across the province to maintain law and order.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) is facilitating the government to install security cameras along routes of mourning processions during Muharram in all divisions, especially Lahore.

These cameras will be linked to a central control room through internet.

The board has also decided to use Google to facilitate its control room to track and monitor the position of the processions.

A PITB spokesman says besides monitoring the processions from the central control room, the authorities will be able to decide about their movement if required by using information technology.

Keeping in view the security threats, the spokesman said a state-of-the-art security plan would ensure smooth processions and timely interception of saboteurs, if any.

Besides the use of IT, the spokesman said, the personnel of the secret and law-enforcement agencies and sniffer dogs would be there for protection of the processions against any possible act of terrorism.
