HYDERABAD, Nov 9: The Pakistan People’s Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) has condemned the ongoing series of targeted killings in Hyderabad and observed that the government had left the people of Hyderabad at the mercy of terrorists after failing to control their activities in Karachi.

Speaking at a press conference at the local press club on Friday, the party’s district president Fayyaz Memon, senior vice-president Irshad Khaskheli, general-secretary Asghar Bhand, Peeral Majidano and others said that conspiracies were being hatched to destroy peace in Hyderabad, the second largest city of Sindh. They observed that business and businessmen were being targeted by terrorist but the district administration and elected representatives were in deep slumber thought they were supposed to ensure protection to the life and property of citizens.

They observed that the authorities had left the people of Karachi at the mercy of terrorists after failing to control their activities and now they seemed to have done the same in Hyderabad, where people were finding themselves helpless against terrorists.

They said that inaction on the part of the Hyderabad district administration reflected the government’s failure to establish its writ. Ignoring their responsibility of protecting people’s life and property, ministers and advisers were busy amassing money through corruption, they alleged.

The PPP-SB leaders urged the government to take immediate action against terrorists across the province. They demanded arrest of all those involved in the recent terrorist activities in Hyderabad and said that the bereaved families should be given Rs500,000 for each of the deceased victims and Rs200,000 for each of the wounded persons.

Our Sukkur correspondent adds: Activists of Sunni Tehreek (ST) also staged a rally on Friday to protest the targeted killings in the city.

The rally participants marched from Haider Chowk to the local press club raising slogans against the government.

Carrying banners inscribed with slogans against terrorism, they urged the government to take measures against the bloodshed of innocent people and arrest the killers.

They also condemned the continuing targeted attacks and other acts of terrorism in Karachi.

ST leaders Mohammad Akbar Raza Qadri, Syed Sajid Ali Kazmi and Abdul Shakoor Bhatti were present at the rally.
