LAHORE, Oct 9: One person was killed and five others, including a police constable, were injured after unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on a car on Nicolson Road on Tuesday evening.

Witnesses told Naulakha police the assailants apparently targeted the car-riders and their indiscriminate fire triggered a panic in the area.

The police said Nadeem Tipna was going along three accomplices -- Shahzad, Yaseen and Alamgir -- when they were attacked by four gunmen.

The suspects sprayed the car with bullets and injured four car-riders. Their firing also left two passers-by Constable Rafique and Muhammad Ali injured.

Ambulances shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital where Alamgir succumbed to his injuries.

Senior police officials also rushed to the spot to supervise the crime scene investigation. The police shifted the body for autopsy and started investigation.

DIES: A third-year student, who was hit by a stray bullet a few days ago at his Natha Singh village in Burki, succumbed to his injury at Lahore General Hospital on Tuesday.The Burki station house officer said Imran, 22, was erecting a wooden stick when a stray bullet hit his head. He was rushed to hospital where he died. His paternal aunt and a cousin were also present on the occasion, the SHO said while quoting the family.

Ichhra police said Azam, 38, who was shot at and wounded by unidentified people at his shop in Shah Jamal area a few days ago, succumbed to his wounds at Services Hospital on Tuesday.

The police said Azam, who originally belonged to a Kasur village, was shot apparently by his rivals.

He said the family refused to conduct a post-mortem examination and received the body through a court order.

Green Town police said Haji Khursheed, 50, who was shot at by his son, Kamran, following a money dispute at their Gandairanwala Chowk residence, died at Jinnah Hospital on Tuesday.

The police said Kamran while working in Dubai used to send money to his father. After his return from Dubai some time back, he asked his father for the money.

Eight days ago, following a quarrel over the issue, Kamran fired at his father.

FIRE: A fire broke out in a carpet factory on Kamahan Road near Ashyana Housing Scheme on Tuesday.

Rescue 1122 fire-tenders rushed to the spot and battled the blaze for some time before it was put out.
