Negligence claims life

GUJAR KHAN, Oct 6: A woman died in the labour room of the tehsil headquarters hospital due to alleged negligence of the medical and paramedical staff.

According to sources, Shagufta Bibi, 26, gave birth to a baby through normal delivery but soon after she died due to alleged negligence of the female doctor and other staff attending her.

According to Dr Pervez Raja, the medical superintendent of the hospital, an enquiry has been initiated against the officials concerned. It may be mentioned that the child and mother care centre of the hospital was recently upgraded under a USAID-funded programme. However, majority of the lady doctors and gynecologists posted at the centre seldom attend delivery cases.

Sources in the health department said a number of inquiries had been conducted against gynecologists of the hospital and one of them was even transferred to Murree as a punishment but she staged a comeback using her political connections.

The local residents have called upon the chief minister to take notice of the issue in order to ensure provision of safe treatment to the patients. — Correspondent

College for Mandra

GUJAR KHAN, Oct 6: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has announced a hospital for Kaliam Sharif, a girls college in Mandra town, construction of a crossing bridge on the railway  track near Kaliam Sharif village.

He was visiting the shrine of Baba Fazal Shah Kaliami where he met the locals of the area and listened to their problems.

On the demand of the residents of the area, the prime minister directed to waive locals, using GT road while moving between Mandra and Kaliam, from toll tax at Mandra. The local will be required to produce ID card at toll plaza. — Correspondent

SDPO suspended

GUJAR KHAN, Oct 6: The inspector general of Punjab police has reportedly suspended DSP Syed Iqbal Kazmi, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Gujar Khan and directed him to report to the central police office, Lahore.

On the other hand the residents and traders of Gujar Khan have urged the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to send an honest person as the SDPO of Gujar Khan police circle. — Correspondent

Tribute paid to Faiz

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: The Parveen Shakir Trust on Saturday paid rich tribute to renowned literary figure and poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz here at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.

Famous actor Qavi Khan played the role of Faiz Ahmed Faiz in the programme titled, “Faiz Ki Kahani Kuch Un Ki Kuch Hamari Zubani'. The programme was produced by Mazharul Islam in which the different experiences of Faiz's life were narrated.

Rahat Bano, daughter of famous singer Surriya Multani, sung ever green songs of Faiz Ahmed Faiz while Nargis Rasheed presented salient features of his life as a vocal person in background.

Faiz Ahmad Faiz born in Sailkot, was an influential intellectual, revolutionary poet, and one of the most famous poets of the Urdu language. — APP

Grenade attack

TAXILA, Oct 6: One person was injured when some miscreant hurled grenade at a flour mill on Wah-Bhattar road in Wah Saddar police area on Saturday evening.

Police sources said that a big bang was heard around 7:20pm near the main entrance of Shan flour mills creating panic in the area.

An employee of the flour mill, Mohammad Ramzan, 21, received multiple injuries in the blast and was rushed to local hospital from where he was taken to Tehsil headquarters hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, security in Wah Cantonment was beefed up after the incident. — Correspondent

SHOs reshuffled

ATTOCK, Oct 6: The district police officer (DPO), Mohammad Hilal Khan, on Friday reshuffled SHOs of four police stations of the district.

The district police’s spokesman said the DPO had appointed sub-inspector (SI) Mohammad Azam as Rangu police SHO in place of Inspector Asif Abbass Shah, who was posted as in-charge of Pindigheb judicial lock-up.

In-charge complaint cell of district police headquarters, Inspector Iftikhar Malik was transferred and posted as Fatehjang Police SHO replacing Inspector Akhtar Ali, who was appointed SHO Pindigheb police. Similarly, Jand police SHO SI Mohammad Riaz was transferred to CIA staff, Attock. — Correspondent
