ISLAMABAD, Oct 1: A day after the end of the deadline for filing statements of assets and liabilities with the Election Commission, about 393 members of parliament and provincial assemblies, including a number of federal and provincial ministers and leading politicians, failed to complete the legal formality.

Sources told Dawn that Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik, Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Manzoor Wattoo, Minister for Religious Affairs Khurshid Shah, Communications Minister Arbab Alamgir, Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Malik Azmat Khan, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Moula Bux Chandio and Minister of State for Interior Imtiaz Safdar Warraich had failed to meet the deadline.

Twenty-three senators, including Islamuddin Sheikh, Mir Lashkari Raisani, former privatisation minister Waqar Ahmad Khan, his father Gulzar Ahmad Khan, prominent ANP leaders Haji Adeel and Azam Khan Hoti, Kamil Ali Agha of PML-Q, Faisal Raza Abidi of PPP and Nuzhat Sadiq of PML-N have also not filed the statement of assets.Ali Musa Gilani and Abdul Qadir Gilani, sons of former prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Captain Safdar (retd), son-in-law of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, National Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, Maulana Attaur Rehman, brother of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Awais Ahmad Leghari are among 98 defaulting members of the National Assembly.

Noor Alam Khan, who is an active member of the Public Accounts Committee, Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi, Chairman of the Pakistan Intellectual Property Organisation, PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Sheikh Aftab Ahmad, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Lt General (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch and Abid Sher Ali, former federal ministers Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Aftab Shaban Mirani, Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd and Dr Zubeida Jalal are also on the list of defaulters.

Adviser to the Prime Minister Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Asma Arbab Alamgir of PPP, Haider Abbas Rizvi of MQM, Kashmala Tariq of PML-LM, Riaz Fatiana of PML-Q, Syed Akhudzada Chita of PPP and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry of PML-N are also are among defaulters.

Provincial minister Ahmad Ali Aulak is among 167 members of the Punjab Assembly who are yet to submit their statements.

Prominent among them are: Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz Ahmad, Ahmad Mujtaba Gilani, brother of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Robina Shaheen Wattoo, daughter of Federal Minister Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Parliamentary leader of MMA in the house Ali Haider Noor Khan Niazi, Adviser to the Chief Minister Asad Ashraf, PML-N Lahore Secretary General Khawaja Imran Nazir and former ministers Haji Mohammad Ishaq, Neelum Jabbar Chaudhry and Makhdoom Syed Ali Raza Shah.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza, Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Chairman of the provincial public accounts committee Sardar Jam Tamachi Unar, former ministers Sassui Palejo, Nargis N.D. Khan and Mukesh Kumar and Syeda Marvi Rashdi, Ghalib Hussain Khan Domki, Dr Abdul Sultan Rajpar and Muzaffar Ali Shujra are among 44 members of the Sindh Assembly who have not filed the statements.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Mohammad Humayun Khan, Sports and Culture Minister Syed Aqil Shah, Communications and Works Minister Amjad Khan Afridi, Forests Minister Wajid Ali Khan, Minister for Population Affairs Sitara Ayaz, Education Minister Qazi Mohammad Asad Khan and Minister for Zakat and Ushr Namroz Khan are among 46 members of the provincial assembly who have not filed their statements.

Balochistan ministers Ainullah Shams, Asfandyar Khan Kakar, Maulana Syed Abdul Bari Agha, Zamrak Khan, Nasreen Rehman Khetran, Abdul Khaliq, Nasir Khan Jamali, Mir Zafarullah Khan Zehri, Syed Ahsan Shah and Jaffer George, Advisers to the Chief Minister Husan Bano and Uzma Ahad and Mir Mohammad Bakhtiar Domki, Sardar Yar Mohammad Khan Rind and Samina Raziq are among 15 members of the provincial assembly who are yet to file their statements.
