Declaration shocks Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec 5: Pakistan expressed disappointment on Thursday over the “unwarranted and unbalanced” reference to Pakistan in the so-called Delhi Declaration and regretted that the legitimate, genuine and indigenous Kashmir freedom struggle had not been given due recognition.

The declaration signed between Russian president and the Indian prime minister on Dec 4, had contained allegation against Pakistan over the so-called “cross-border infiltration”.

“The Government of Pakistan has noted with disappointment the unwarranted and unbalanced references to Pakistan contained in the so-called Delhi Declaration,” a foreign office spokesman said.

The spokesman said that while the Pakistan government did not expect any objectivity or reason from the chauvinist Indian leaders, “it is unfortunate that the Russian leadership has been taken in by the Indian propaganda”.

“It is regrettable that the legitimate, genuine and indigenous Kashmir freedom struggle has not been given due recognition,” said the spokesman in a statement here.

He said high sounding rhetoric of the declaration could not mask the massive human rights violations and genocide carried out by the Indian security forces in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Russian side has also failed to notice India’s adamant refusal to resolve the Kashmir dispute in a fair and just manner on the basis of UN resolutions and in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people,” the spokesman added.

Pakistan, he said, “expects Russia, as a major power, to play a constructive role in addressing the grave and fundamental problems of peace and security in South Asia.”—APP
