LAHORE, Dec 14: The Lahore High Court issued on Friday notices to Attorney-General Malik Muhammad Qayyum for the alleged involvement of his son, Muhammad Ahmad Qayyum, and 13 others in a fraudulent execution of the sale deed of a plot of land.

The division bench, comprising Justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi and Justice Muhammad Muzammal Khan, issued notices in a contempt of court petition by Zahid Mehmood. The case will be taken up on Feb 4.

The petitioner said influential parties were involved in litigation of expensive land on Main Boulevard Gulberg-III namely ‘Qasr-i-Zauq’. He said Mr Qayyum’s law firm conducted cases pending in various courts pertaining to the land on behalf of various plaintiffs and defendants.

He said Mr Qayyum committed fraud with courts and also instituted a suit through his maternal uncle, Malik Zulfiqar, regarding the property on the basis of a fake compromise.

“But the suit was dismissed on technical grounds and Mr Qayyum’s son filed an appeal with the LHC,” the petitioner said.

He said an LHC division bench on Nov 30, 2006, issued an injunction against the sale and transfer of the property.

“Only after 160 days of court’s orders, Malik Qayyum sold the property to the son of Senator Gulzar for a mere Rs80 million,” he added.

He prayed that the respondents along with Mr Qayyum be ordered to be detained for six months. He prayed that the impugned sale deeds dated Dec 16, 2006, registered by the Gulberg sub-registrar be declared illegal.

He also prayed that respondent M/s Asian Gas Pvt Ltd be directed to present the unlawful sale deeds in original and be restrained permanently from using the impugned deeds.

He said the sale deeds were prepared and executed at Malik Qayyum’s office. He said the law firm also got public notices published in national dailies confirming the sale of the property.
