KARACHI, June 21: A high-level meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad in the chair reviewed the initial phases of construction of the country’s largest park named ‘River Valley Park’ on Thursday.

Dr Ibad directed the officials concerned to take necessary steps to reserve land and prepare a financial plan for the park.

The meeting was attended by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, Principal Secretary Saleem Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Ghulam Sarwar Khero, Finance Secretary Malik Israr, Additional Chief Secretary Local Governments Fazlur Rehman, DCO Javed Hanif and others.

The governor was informed that the area between Qayyumabad and Malir was recommended for the project that would stretch over 4,432.67 acres.

The design and maps had been prepared after surveying the place keeping all possible recreational facilities in view, it was added. At least 150-foot wide water flow space will be constructed for free flow of water across the River Valley Park while 50-foot roads will be built alongside the water channel. In the valley, car parking areas will be established at 24 points. Besides, various gardens the park will have over 500,000 plants and trees.

In order to promote sports activities 12 athletic grounds, two basket ball courts, two tennis courts, two volley ball courts, one golf course, a polo ground and horse riding area, two badminton courts etc are planned. The park will also house 15 cricket grounds, 10 hockey grounds and 10 football grounds of international standards.

To provide healthy activities to the citizens, facilities like kite flying area, motorcycle racing track, car racing track, remote control helicopter and aeroplane runway will also be provided in the park.

Five open-air theaters will be established while five children play areas and family areas at eight different points are also suggested.

One of the main attractions of the park will be the installation of the latest elevated mono-rail from Hino Chowk, Korangi to Quaidabad Bridge.—PPI
