LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed on Sunday suspended two constables of the Police Response Unit (PRU) from service for flying kites in Samanabad and issued orders for their arrest.

Kite flying has been banned in Punjab for several years owing to the casualties its string causes. Any violation is punishable with imprisonment and fine or both under the law.

PRU constables Rizwan and Abdullah of Samanabad uploaded a video on social media, showing them flying kites and the matter was reported by some news channels.

As the news was telecast, the CCPO took notice of the incident and ordered the Iqbal Town SP Operations retired Capt Ajmal to arrest both the suspects.

The police team arrested the suspects who were turned out to be policemen.

“It is unfortunate to see policemen involved in kite flying,” he said and added that it was the duty of policemen to discourage illegal acts.

“Whoever violates the law, whether a citizen or a policeman, will have to face action,” the CCPO said and added that he had taken action against the violators and suspended them from the service.

Mr Hameed later directed the city police to take strict action against the people involved in kite flying. He also directed the Lahore SSP operations to take action against both kite makers and kite flyers through special strategy, particularly on Saturdays and Sundays.

DOLPHIN: The Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU) of Lahore Police, in a crackdown arrested criminals and recovered five cars, 17 motorcycles,19 mobiles phones,18 pistols, five rifles, 15 magazine, 290 bullets and cash them.

Both the wings of police recovered narcotics, including 10grm charas and 18 bottles of liquor from the suspects.

The Dolphins and PRU wings showed immediate response to the all 601 calls received on helpline 15. They helped 88 people on roads of the city. During vigorous and effective patrol, they checked 25,582 motorcycles and 22,794 people. As many as 16 vehicles and 47 motorcycles were impounded and 183 people were arrested due to incomplete documents whereas disciplinary action was taken against responsible persons.

Five cars, 17 motorcycles, 19 mobile phones and more than 41,000 were recovered from the criminals during action.

The police wings arrested 24 people for violating wheelie, 17 for kite flying, nine for aerial firing and three for violating Fire Arms Act.
