LAYYAH: Two nurses of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital were suspended from service on Monday after the families of two women and their newborn babies who died at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital held a protest against the staff of the gynecology ward of the hospital, alleging that they were responsible for deaths.

The two women belonged to Chowk Sarwar Shaheed and Karor Lal Esan and they were referred to the DHQ hospital for delivery of their babies. Sumaira Bibi was referred to the hospital from the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Karor Lal Esan and Basheeran Mai from Chowk Sarwar Shaheed.

Two nurses suspended over negligence

Both the women and their infants died due to the alleged negligence of the medical staff. The relatives of the both the women alleged that the staff had asked them to take the patients to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, but they were dead before being shifted to the ambulance.

The DHQ medical superintendent is on leave.

When contacted, Layyah health chief executive officer Dr Ameer Abdullah said, “Sumaira Bibi died due to heart attack and Basheeran died due to blood loss. The staff nurses, Aqdas Raza and Shumaila Shafique, had been suspended from service due to their negligence and rude behaviour with the relatives of the patients”.
