TOBA TEK SINGH: A local court in Kamalia town awarded capital punishment to a shrine caretaker on Tuesday after blasphemy charges proved against him.

Kamalia Sadar police had registered the case under Section 295 C of the Pakistan Penal Code against Khalifa Peer Nazir Ahmad of Chak 707-GB on the complaint of Muhammad Aslam Khalid of Muhallah Fazil Dewan, Kamalia.

Khalid said that he visited the shrine of Peer Seeti Shah located outside the village on March 8 last year where shrine’s caretaker Khalifa Peer Nazir Ahmad was addressing a gathering of several devotees and was uttering blasphemous words.

The police brought the convict from the district jail to the court amid tight security and took him back soon after the announcement of the court order.
