SAHIWAL: Seven public school headmasters/headmistresses and senior teachers have been suspended from service while explanation has been sought from five others over charge of negligence in the district during the last one week.

The newly appointed chief executive officer (CEO) of the district education authority, Sajjad Aslam, took action under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act 2006. Indiscipline, low enrollment, poor cleaning conditions and absenteeism are some of the major charges over which the teachers faced punitive action.

According to the information confirmed by the CEO office, Nilofar, EST/headmistress, Government Girls Elementary School, Chak 87/6-R, Ahmed Saeed, SST headmaster, Muhammad Amin, EST, Government High School, Chak 87/6-R, Qadeer Ahmed, PST/headmaster and Muhammad Shoaib, PST, Government Primary School, Chak 87A/6-R, Amjad Rasool, SST/headmaster, Government Elementary School, Chak 10/L-1 and Saleem Akhter, SST/headmaster, Government Elementary School 185/9-L have been suspended from their services.

Explanation has been sought from Abdul Qayyum, principal Government Higher Secondary School, Harappa, Nadia Aslam, ESE, Government Girls Community Model School, Chak 10/L-1, Sumera Chishti, headmistress, Government Girls High School, Chak 88/6-R, Tahira Yasmin, PST/headmistress, Government Girls Primary School, Chak 59/GD and Salman Iqbal, headmaster Government High School, Chak 59/GD.

Ms Nadia Aslam has been asked to explain her action as she was found sitting under a tree while his whole class was studying under the scorching heat on the school lawn. In her place, Tanzeela Anam has been given the charge of the school at Chak 10/L-1

Talking to Dawn, CEO Sajjad Aslam said the punitive action against the teachers was based on departmental reports and surprise visits. He claimed that the move was aimed at improving teachers’ performance in public schools.

land retrieved: The district government has retrieved 802 kanals worth Rs1 billion from illegal occupants near Comsats University campus.

The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner Zaman Wattoo. He said the land had been used by occupants without paying lease.

ARRESTED: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested a constable for taking a bribe of Rs10,000 from a rickshaw driver in Pakpattan on Friday.

Qabola Constable Arshad Dogar demanded bribery from Allah Dita who reported it to the ACE. On Friday, the ACE arrested Dogar and confiscated marked bills from him.
