UNITED NATIONS: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump agreed with him that the US-Pakistan relationship had to be “rebuilt”.

Speaking to Pakistan Television on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, Mr Qureshi said he had met President Trump at a reception for UN delegates on Monday night.

The foreign minister said he was pleased to learn the president agreed with him that relations with Pakistan must be rebuilt.

Besides Donald Trump, Shah Mehmood Qureshi met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his wife. The secretary of state also agreed with Mr Qureshi’s point of view that relations needed “rebuilding”.

Secretary Pompeo and the foreign minister are scheduled to meet again in Washington on Oct 2.

“The US secretary of state expressed his good wishes for Prime Minister Imran Khan,” Mr Qureshi said.
