LAHORE: The Lahore Regional Cricket Association has announced that the first Shahrez T20 Gold Cup Cricket Tournament will be held at different grounds here from the last week of December.

All 168 active and inactive clubs of the region are eligible to take part in this tournament.

Shahrez Abdullah Khan, President Lahore Region Cricket Association, said that Under-13, Under-16 and Under-19 tournaments would also be organised to pick up teams for the national events of these age categories on merit.

He added that after the Sports Board Punjab had installed floodlights at the LCCA ground, the region would also hold tournaments under floodlights.

The Sports Board Punjab, despite receiving the required funds from the Punjab government in the 2016-17 budget, could not complete the project even after almost 18 months of receiving funds.

To a question, he vowed that all the teams of the region would be selected on merit. He said the players of the Lahore Region Blues and Whites would be honored for playing in the final of the recently-concluded National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi and also the two teams which had qualified for the Super Eight stage of the ongoing Quaid-i-Azam Trophy.

He said that two players of the region, Ali Zaryab Asif and Zaid Alam, would also be honoured for getting a place in the Pakistan team competing in the Junior World Cup next month in New Zealand.
