Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Jacobabad Ghulam Murtaza Maitlo on Friday sent Garhi Khero Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abdul Majeed Abro, SHO Abdul Ahad Soomro, and ASI Eijaz Ahmed Jakhrani to jail after their bail plea was rejected in Anila Dharpali murder case.

Anila Darpali had approached Jackobabad City police station in 2012, seeking protection as she was reportedly facing life threats on the pretext of Karo-Kari. Instead of producing her before the court or taking her to a shelter house, the police officials handed Darpali back to her relatives on the so-called guaranty of a local contractor Abdul Razzaq Jat.

Later some reports suggested that Darpali was allegedly killed by her relatives, however, the police failed to recover her dead or alive. The fate of the girl still remains a mystery, sources told Dawn.

DSP Abro, SHO Soomro and ASI Jakhrani had been sent to jail due to their alleged negligence, poor performance and mishandling the case. On Friday The ADSJ Jacobabad cancelled the bail plea of the police officials and issued orders to keep all the three in jail custody.

The Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and bank accounts of the accused guarantor Abdul Razzaq Jat have already been blocked.

Earlier, the police had lodged a first information report (FIR) after the then IG Sindh had taken notice of the issue, said sources, adding that, however, the police failed to find her or recover her body.
