KARACHI: A massive power breakdown in the K-Electric’s network badly affected water supply to the city which received over 150 million gallons of water on Sunday against its daily normal supply of over 500m gallons.

According to a statement issued by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KSWB), the normal water supply is expected to resume on Monday morning. It said various localities of Karachi received no or less water on Sunday. The KSWB urged people to conserve water to avoid inconvenience.

The statement said that owing to the power breakdown at around 2.40am on Sunday, the KWSB network collapsed as its pumping stations at Dhabeji, Gharo, Hub and Northeast Karachi and various filter plants stopped functioning.

The power supply was partially restored to different pumping stations which started functioning between 4.45am and 5.30am. However, the Gharo pumping station was affected again as electricity supply to it was disrupted at around 8am for a couple of hours.

The KWSB said it had prepared a comprehensive plan for smooth supply of water to all areas of the city during Ramazan, but it was affected on the very first day of the holy month.
