The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) National Selection Committee has decided to replace Umar Akmal with Haris Sohail for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2017, to be held in England and Wales, a press release issued Tuesday said.
Headed by former national team captain Inzamama-ul-Haq, the National Selection Committee had called Umar Amin, Asif Zakir and Haris Sohail for a fitness test today at the National Cricket Academy in a bid to determine which player would replace Akmal.
After testing all three players and based on the reports submitted by the trainer, the committee decided to select Haris Sohail as Akmal's replacement for the tournament, which is set to begin from June 1.
Akmal had earlier failed to pass the fitness test in the pre-camp for the Champions Trophy in Birmingham, the second fitness test he had failed in two months, prompting officials to remove him from the national squad and ask the cricketer to return home to work on his fitness.

Wise decision. But we are lacking a hitter in lower order. This is bit worry signs for us to convert 270 or 280 to 300 or 320 beacuse of no proper hitter in the depth.

What wrong has Asif Zakir done? Took him to west indies, didn't play a singles match and dropped from the team. How could this be done that a player is selected in the side and never allowed to play and then dropped. He is the second highest run scorer in domestic season and through out his domestic career hwpe is one of the leading batsman.

@BAXAR, PCB carried and played Sami and Anwar Ali for ages despite being awful players. They belonged to same part of country as Sarfraz and Fawad Alam are. PCB has ignored Sadaf Hussain despite having unbelievable carear stats but no one from Sargodha cries foul over that.

@Malik,USA you didn t get my point, a players who has been performing for a decade, selected in the squad but not given a chance and then dropped. Does not make sense. There is not a single batsman in the side who has a good strike rate in ODIs. Its is not about the best eleven it is more about parchee eleven

There can be no place for Fawad Slam as he is not capable of clearing the fence, when needed. I would go for a physically unfit Umar Akmal than Alam. I do not know much about Harris Sohail and will wait for his turn to perform.

Menon : Really, he cleared fences against India and won the match for Pakistan quite easily and every time we put him he performs with bat and he is an awesome fielder unlike the bunch of other current parchee players. Get your fact straight before you talk about not clearing the fence. How many can clear fence in our current squad and most of them lack modern cricketing brain where singles are more important than clearing fence.

Don't expect Pakistani team to give big targets if batting first. Only chances to win if they let other team out cheaply and then chase relatively small target and win by 2 to 3 wickets in a nail biting finish.

@Muhammad Kamran: You are right that the batsman deserve to be in team (in all formats) is Fawad, but many Pakistanis, especially those holding offices, are not only corrupt, shameless, bias and full of nepotism, but in their biases (tasub) and self-interest, they can do everything (even get obviously illogical) at the expense of country, could even sell the country.
However, Haris Sohail is good batsman (obviously not as good as Fawad), and his selection is not without merit. I believe, if Fawad and Haris gets included in test and ODIs and Fawad along with test and ODI, gets included in T20I too (Haris strike rate in 20 overs match is pathetic), than it would be selection on merit.

@Shahbaz Ahmed: You can say good jokes:) Fawad with FC average 56.5, highest ever FC average for any Pakistani in Pakistan history, a player who made 25 FC century, how can he be worse batsman than Haris whose first class average is 52, one who only made 11 FC century? ... seems, you come from an island where 56.5 is less than 52, right? :)
