ISLAMABAD: Four militants involved in attacks on civilians, police and soldiers and convicted by military courts were executed on Tuesday, a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

It said the four, who were hanged in a prison in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, all belonged to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan group.

The names of the executed convicts were Rehman-ud-din, Mushtaq Khan, Obaid-ur-Rehman and Zafar Iqbal.

According to the ISPR, Rehman was involved in attacking personnel of the armed forces and other law-enforcement agencies and killing member of a peace committee.

Mushtaq took part in an attack which resulted in the death of several soldiers and injuries to two other personnel.

Obaid killed innocent civilians and Zafar participated in an attack which claimed the lives of a junior commissioned officer and a soldier of the Frontier Constabulary.

All the four admitted to the crimes they were accused of committing, said the statement.

Last week the army chief confirmed death sentences handed down by military courts to 30 militants.

The military courts were established in the wake of the deadly terrorist attack on an army-run school in Peshawar in 2014.

Figures released earlier this month showed that 161 executions have been ordered by the courts since they were created and 24 of them have been carried out — excluding Tuesday’s hangings.
