Govt working on bill against domestic child labour, AAG tells CJP

During a Supreme Court hearing on Tuesday, an additional attorney general informed a three-member bench headed by the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) that the government is working on a bill on the rights of children.

CJP Mian Saqib Nisar, while being informed of progress made on the Tayyaba child maid 'torture' case, instructed the concerned lawyers to present an initial draft of the bill against domestic child labour in court.

The CJP pointed out that the Domestic Workers (Employment Rights) Act had been presented in Senate in 2013 and nothing came of it.

"This societal menace needs to be abolished and it would be if all children are educated under the constitutional provisions of free education for children," Justice Nisar observed.

Additional Attorney General Rana Waqar told the bench that the government was discussing the bill with stakeholders and that it would be presented in court soon.

Justice Nisar instructed the attorney general to show the final draft of the bill to all stakeholders and inform the court about their comments.

Regarding the Tayyaba case proceedings, Advocate General Islamabad Mian Abdul Rauf told the court that the case has been sent to the Islamabad High Court and will be heard there.

He further informed the court that the challan against the defendants has been filed and they have been sent notices to appear in court on April 27.

I am stunned by the total empathy of PPPP and PML N over a highly important issue. Both these Parties have lived a life where poor people are there only to serve the rich; never mind how they became rich. Does Chairman Senate have the moral courage to face these victims of torture through illegal domestic help?

A very large number of destitute children are being supported by normal citizens at ease. Such children are taken care of their needs in food, lodging, often in their proper school education, while they are asked to give a supporting help to the house ladies in their daily chores against some cash allowances. Rules made in the name of 'child labor' must be made ensuring not to harm the lives of those hapless children otherwise destined to become ills of society. Judiciary under the recent case of Maryam, is well aware of such children. Rules must address the abuse without damaging the lives of those on way to better future.

this will definitely end selling of their child by poor parents so that other children get nutrition. if government controlled website is made where people donate online and earn tax rebate it will highly increase sponsorship finances. Let donors decide which child they wish to donate face and name location of child may be made hidden if nobody in world has such portal Pakistan will be first to provide it.

These house ladies have this luxury, because such children's parents don't have proper jobs and government is not providing free education and medical care. The poverty at large benefits the affluent. The cost of having helping hands will increase considerably, so these ladies will prefer having simple small homes that would be taken care of by themselves. The corruption, caused by obsession of luxury life, will reduce automatically, just like in the developed world.

Would it help, Sir with due respect why do they work in their tender age, because of poverty. you know sir why your kids and my kids did not work cos we could afford it. sir with due respect elimination of poverty is the answer. A point to ponder...If you go out into the real world, you cannot miss seeing that the poor are poor not because they are untrained or illiterate but because they cannot retain the returns of their labor. They have no control over capital, and it is the ability to control capital that gives people the power to rise out of poverty. Sir again with due respect...things are never as complicated as they seem. It is only our arrogance that prompts us to find unnecessarily complicated answers to simple problems.

Some poor couples have so many children they must send some of them out to work. A man takes care of his family. If he and his wife want more children he must make more money to support them. A wife should not have eight or ten children because her mother wants more grandchildren. That is a recipe for disaster.
