MULTAN: Commence-ment of evening classes at public medical colleges will not only accommodate more students, but also generate revenue to meet expenditures.

A senior doctor at Nishtar Medical Institute told APP that it could prove to be a win-win situation for both parents and the government. He added that, for example, Nishtar offered admission to 325 students in MBBS first year annually at a fee of Rs28,000 each.

He further said that private medical colleges were collecting a huge amount of money from the students who could not get admission to public medical colleges. He also said that fee for second year at Nishtar was Rs19,300, Rs19,350 for third, Rs19,355 for fourth and Rs19,400 for the final year.

The doctor said that if the government took the suggestion seriously, it would reduce admissions to private medical colleges across the country and save a lot of money of parents also.

There are 3,405 MBBS seats in 17 public sector medical colleges and 216 BDS seats in three public dental colleges of Punjab. There are also 3,500 MBBS and 800 BDS seats in 27 private medical colleges and 12 dental colleges of the province, respectively.
