Human rights activist and Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) professor Salman Haider has been reported missing from Islamabad.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Lohi Bher police station and police are investigating it as a possible kidnapping.

Salman's brother, Zeeshan Haider, told DawnNews his brother was in the Bani Gala region with his friends on the night of Jan 6 and had called his wife to let her know that he would be home by 8pm.

When Salman did not return by 10pm, his wife called to check up on him but his phone went unanswered, Zeeshan added.

His wife later received a text message telling her to pick Salman's car from Koral Chowk, Zeeshan said.

The police later found the missing professor's car from Korang Town, police sources said.

Salman is popular for his Urdu poetry, which explores and critiques prevalent socio-political issues in Pakistan. He is listed as a lecturer in the Gender Studies department of FJWU on the university's website.
