LAHORE: Though a majority of the members of Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Board of Governors are interested to get approved a proposal according to which they should also be entitled to visit abroad to witness Pakistan’s matches, the proposal is unlikely to be approved when it is presented for a final discussion at the next BoG meeting, to be held in Karachi next month.

Sources told Dawn that a majority of the members favoured the proposal tabled during the Nov 8 BoG meeting, held in Lahore.

A couple of them, however, showed no interest in the proposal and were of the opinion that while they were already allowed to visit abroad whenever any official assignment was given to them, the proposal of going outside of Pakistan just to watch national team’s matches did not carry any weight or logic.

According to sources, the proposal is unlikely to get the approval when it is tabled at the next meeting in Karachi, for which the dates are yet to be announced.

Interestingly, while none of the BoG members are seen at the cricket grounds to witness the domestic matches in Pakistan, a majority of them are quite excited about the proposal regarding tours abroad. These members are also part of different BoG committees which have been formed to work for the betterment of Pakistan cricket, but apart from a couple of these bodies, the rest of them hardly ever hold any meeting.

APP adds: A PCB spokesman clarified on Friday that under the rules, only chairmen of the BoG committees were entitled to certain travel and lodging facilities which will enable them to carry out their work efficiently.

The matter of enabling BoG members, who give their time and effort to the PCB on an honorary basis, to watch a maximum of one match per year outside Pakistan was debated and the executive committee was asked to submit an appropriate proposal in this regard at the next BoG meeting.
