GUJRANWALA: Eleven gas cylinder manufacturing factories and decanting shops were sealed by district and municipal town administrations on Saturday.

The district administration received complaints that many factories were manufacturing defective cylinders which had caused causalities. Side by side, shopkeepers were decanting LPG in various localities of city.

The teams, headed by Khiali, Aroop, Nandipur and Qila Dedar Singh towns administrations, raided the factories and shops and sealed them.

ACE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) registered on Saturday a corruption case against Naushera Virkan tehsil headquarters hospital medical officer for issuing a bogus medico-legal certificate.

Complainant Nauman, of village Sado Goraya, said medical officer Dr Munir Ahmad had issued a medico-legal certificate to his rivals in a murder case after getting a heavy money. Later, an inquiry proved him guilty.

PHA: The Parks and Horticulturel Authority (PHA) sacked on Saturday 200 workers citing shortage of funds.

These workers staged a demonstration outside the office of the district coordination officer and demanded that they be restored or they would take to the street. They, in a procession, arrived at the Ghulshan-i-Iqbal and shouted slogans against the PHA and the government.

All Pakistan Local Government Workers’ Federation leader Naseeruddin Humayun Malik appealed to the city district government and the chief minister to restore the workers.

He said the families of sacked workers would suffer while their children would be deprived of education and health facilities. They dispersed when some senior officers said that their demand would be forwarded to the higher authorities.

RPO: A station house officer (SHO), a former SHO and a muharrar of the Khiali police were suspended for negligence charges while an explanation was sought from DSP Muhammad Nawaz Ghuman.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Tahir inspected the Khiali police station and checked the record and treasurer and muharrar offices. He suspended SHO Sarfaraz Ahmed Ranjha, former SHO Akram Gill and Muharrar Muhammad Allays for poor maintenance of record.

The RPO also issued explanations to DSP Ghuman for not updating records and ordered him to update the record in 15 days.

The RPO directed City Superintendent of Police Jawad Tariq to monitor the situation. Mr Tahir spoke to officers at Khiali police station that they should maintain good relationship with the community and resolve their problems on merit or face action.
