LAHORE: The City District Government of Lahore moved on Wednesday to secure the city against the possible invasion of dreaded Congo virus by spraying sacrificial animals at 16 entry points and subsequently rechecking all of them at six sale points and the main market for sacrificial animals.

“The city government is spraying arriving animals at the entry points, then at sale points (two at the Saggian Bridge, Samanabad, DHA, Jallo Park and Wapda Town) and finally at the main city market at Shahpur Kanjran,” claims the district officer livestock.

In addition, the city government undertook a training programme for butchers in the city and also involved doctors working in the district to create another tier of protection for the city dwellers, he claimed and added: “All these steps have paid off and city has been virus free.”

The city government plans to continue with all the arrangements for the next few weeks as well till Eidul Azha, says a city district government official. The government is particularly sensitive on the issue and has created a ring around the city. In addition, the Punjab Livestock Department has also created such spraying set-ups in different districts of the province, especially those that fall on the border lines.
