KARACHI: Following his heart surgery in London, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to return to Pakistan before the end of Ramazan, his daughter Maryam Nawaz said on Wednesday.

Speaking to DawnNews, she said the premier was doing very well and he had talked to her for a short period on Wednesday, saying: “I am good and my condition is improving.”

Ms Nawaz said: “Three of his arteries were blocked. It will take five or six days for the prime minister to get discharged from the hospital and we expect that he will return home in three to four weeks.

“Our family did not realise the gravity of the prime minister’s health issues and were made aware of it after his last check-up in London.”

Earlier in the day, the premier’s daughter said on Twitter that the surgeons were satisfied with her father’s recovery and that he was expected to remain in the intensive care unit for another 24 hours, before being shifted to a room.

Doctors removed two drain tubes from his chest, which alleviated the premier’s discomfort, she added.
