LAHORE: The Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) claimed on Friday to have arrested three smugglers and recovered 16kg heroin from their possession.

According to a news release, the Rangers troops, acting on a tip-off about the presence of smugglers, raided a compound in the Kasur sector, arrested three smugglers and recovered heroin from them.

Raids were on for the arrest of their accomplices.

The Rangers have foiled five attempts of smuggling within a month, killing two smugglers in an encounter and arresting six others.

Rangers also recovered 230 bottles of Indian liquor and contrabands from their custody.

Cases were also registered against the suspects in different police stations, including Mandi Usman Wala, Kanganpur, Hadiara and Mandi Ahmedabad.

Rangers Director-General Maj-Gen Umar Farooq Burki appreciated the efforts of troops for foiling smuggling bids along the border areas.
