ISLAMABAD: Two educational institutions of the city on Tuesday received threats, one through a letter and the other over a telephone call. The police are investigating the matter and trying to establish if the threats were a hoax.

An administration officer at a law college in Aabpara, Jahangir Khan, lodged a complaint with the police and said he was at the office on February 19 when he received a landline call from an unknown number. The caller said a bomb had been placed in the college which will go off in 30 minutes.

A case was registered with Aabpara police station under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) Section 505 for making statements conducing to public mischief and under the Telegraph Act’s section 25-D for causing annoyance.

Meanwhile, the principal of a college in G-10 also lodged a complaint with the police saying that a letter had been sent to the college through the post on February 18 saying the institute will be attacked on February 19.

A case was registered with Ramna police station under PPC for criminal intimidation.

A senior police officer told Dawn that the cases were being investigated and efforts were underway to trace both the caller and the person who sent the letter.

He said the stamp on the envelope in which the letter was sent was hard to read and hence the post office from which it was dispatched could not yet be identified.

The police has compared the stamp with post offices in G-10, F-10, G-7, G-6 and Satellite Town, but has not found a match, he added.

Security in the two institutes had been tightened and all possible measures for keeping them safe are being taken, the police officer said.
