PSF to hold squash carnival

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) will hold a 13-day squash carnival to provide an opportunity to players of all shades to participate in exciting contests and learn from squash legends.

“The extravaganza scheduled to be held at the newly-built squash courts at the PAF Museum, Karachi will get into action on April 4 and 5 with the two-day contests among the country’s top junior players,” PSF secretary Aamir Nawaz told APP on Thursday.

The junior competitions, he said, would be followed by six exhibition matches to be played from April 6 to 8 between Pakistan and Egypt’s top players.

According to the PSF, Egypt has agreed to send five players-- World No. 4 Omar Mossad, World No. 9 Karim Abdul Gawad, World No. 11 Tarik Momin, World No. 13 Ali Farag and Word No. 18 Mazen Hesham – to the exhibition matches against Pakistan’s top players.

They will be facing Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal, Farhan Zaman, Danish Atlas, Tayyab Aslam and Shahjahan Khan.

“The exhibition matches will be followed by international squash event carrying prize money of US$ 15,000 which will start from April 9 to 16 in collaboration with the Sindh Squash Association,” Nawaz maintained, adding that the name of the championship would be announced later on.

He said squash legends Jehangir Khan and Jansher Khan would also be present during the carnival wherein youngsters would get a chance to learn from them.

“I truly believe that our players will have a wonderful time during the squash festival.” he maintained.
