KARACHI: Despite brilliant all-round performance by Mohammad Wajihuddin, Airport Gymkhana failed to stop Nazimabad Gymkhana from recording their second successive victory in the final round of the KCCA Commissioner Karachi Cup here on Thursday.

Batting first in the Group ‘A’ fixture at the TMC Ground, Airport Gymkhana collected 218-7 in the stipulated 45 overs with Wajihuddin hammering 90 from 78 balls with the aid of 10 boundaries and two sixes. Behram Khan scored 47 that included five fours and a brace of sixes.

Off-spinner Talha Tahami grabbed four wickets for 24 runs.

Nazimabad Gymkhana, in reply, got home in the 43rd over, reaching 220-7 with Shah Ali Zafar contributing 63 (six boundaries and one six) and Hamza Ghanchi 58 (seven fours and one six).

Wajihuddin claimed 3-34 with his off-spinners.

In the Group ‘B’ game at the KCCA Stadium, Tapal CC defeated Mohammad Hussain CC by 40 runs.

Rashid Hanif struck an unbeaten 70 (off 61 balls, four fours and one six) and Zeeshan Jamil made 48 (three fours and one six) as Tapal CC posted 227-6. Slow left-armer Abdul Qadir claimed 4-40.

Mohammad Hussain CC’s chase ended at 187 in 40 overs despite Mohammad Bilal scoring 51 (two boundaries) and Fahad Mahmood 43 not out (three sixes and three fours).
