LAHORE: A shopkeeper in Islampura Main Bazaar received an extortion letter on Saturday, demanding Rs1 million.

Police said shopkeeper Zahid received the letter, warning him of grave consequences for him and his family in case the extortion was not paid.

“If our demand is not fulfilled, you and your family members will be killed,” said the letter which introduced its senders as ‘Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan’. The note was slipped overnight under the shutters of Zahid’s shop. He found it when he opened the shop on Saturday morning and reported it to police, seeking security for him and his family.

The police have registered a case against unidentified persons.
