RAWALPINDI: After failing to end groupings in NA-56, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Monday invited for fresh interviews the ticket seekers for local government elections in six union councils.

The PTI had formed a committee under the chairmanship of Naeemul Haq to settle the issues between the groups led by MPAs and organizers of the party in the constituency of the PTI chairman, Imran Khan.

On Monday, MPAs Arif Abbasi and Rashid Hafeez presented the case of the old workers who had been awarded party tickets for local government elections on January 2014 which were postponed after the Supreme Court ordered fresh delimitation of the union councils.

However, the committee failed to find a solution to the issue as both the groups stuck to their demands.

MPA Rashid Hafeez, who attended the meeting, told Dawn that the committee would again take up the matter on Tuesday.

He said committee had decided to conduct fresh interviews of the candidates for six union councils’ elections.

MPA Arif Abbasi said he had informed the committee about the party decisions in the past during his tenure as district president particularly with regard to awarding of tickets.

He said he had urged the committee chairman to award the tickets to those who had worked for the party in the past and considered as suitable candidates by senior party leaders of the city.

When contacted, Naeemul Haq said the names of the candidates in six union councils would be finalised after the interview.
