KASUR: The district administration has alerted all the departments concerned to tackle the flood situation in the River Sutlej in the wake of release of water from dams by India.

The district administration is expecting a body of water of 0.35 million cusecs on Tuesday (today).

It established on Monday relief camps at Talwar post and announcements were made at mosques of over one dozen vulnerable villages.

DCO Adnan Arshad Aulakh has called a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Tuesday morning where focal person additional district collector Muhammad Shahid will brief the DCO about arrangements made to deal with flood situation.

The DCO said the administration, in the first phase, would make available food hampers, mosquito nets, fodder for the livestock besides health related facilities both for humans and animals.

He said the district administration had also arranged boats, life jackets and engines for boats in July when the flood water had hardly touch the low flood mark.

INJURED: Two armed robbers injured a revenue official when he tried to resist a robbery bid near Circular Road here on Monday.

Reports said that registry moharar Imran Elahi along with his wife was on his way home when two robbers intercepted his bike and tried to snatch cash and gold. On offering resistance, one of the robbers fired at at Elahi. He sustained injuries and was shifted to the Lahore General Hospital in a critical condition.

Police were looking into the matter.

LOOTED: Three robbers looted 22 tolas of gold and Rs40,000 in cash from Muhammad Ashfaq near Badar Colony when he was on his way to his jewellery shop here on Monday.
